Supabarn is a supermarket chain based in Canberra with shops across the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) and New South Wales in Australia. The chain has been in operation since 1994 and current turnover is $121m in 2007[1]

Supabarn's first store opened in the Canberra Centre, Civic in 1991 as Supabarn Emporium. In 2006 as part of a redevelopment of the City Markets portion of the Canberra Centre, Supabarn relocated to a larger store in the same centre. [2]
The Kaleen Supabarn opened in 2000 and has a trading space of 1850sqm
Supabarn's first Sydney store opened in 2002 in the suburb of Five Dock, as part of a new development featuring commercial space and residential apartments.
In 2004 Supabarn purchased the IGA Supermarket in Wanniassa. In 2006 the store was expanded and completely renovated in order to offer a full-line supermarket.[3]
A second Sydney location in Gymea began trading in 2008. Gymea has a trading space of 575sqm, and given that it is not a full-line supermarket, is branded as Supabarn Express.
Supabarn Warehouse opened in Majura ACT in May 2010. Whilst the warehouse allows Supabarn to store large amounts of stock to distribute to its stores, it is also open to the public. [4]
Supabarn Supermarket opened in Sutherland NSW in September 2010. A new full line supermarket with Deli and fresh produce located on the Old Princes Highway in Southerland east. Complex was built by subsidiary of Harvey Norman's
Supabarn supermarkets operate in a similar fashion to that of main competitors Woolworths and Coles. Departments include Administration, Service, Liquor, Grocery, Variety, Produce, Deli, Seafood, Bakery and Perishables [5]
According to Supabarn's website, new stores are planned for the Sydney suburbs of San Souci and Sutherland. According to a submission from Supabarn to the recent ACCC enquiry into Grocery Prices, a third store is also in the planning stages. These three stores were planned to open in 2008, 2009 and 2010.[1]. The Supabarn website currently indicates a May 2010 opening for Sutherland. They have also applied for a direct sale of land in the Canberra Suburb of Kingston, and hope to build a new Supermarket on the site.[6]
In 2008, The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission blocked a bid by Woolworths to purchase Supabarn's Franchised store in Karabar, NSW. [7]. This store had since been sold to another operator and rebranded as IGA.
In 2010 ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope announced that Supabarn had been successful in securing land sales for Supermarkets at Kingston and Casey in the ACT, as well as opening a wholesale centre at Canberra International Airport.[8]
Supabarn also has a motorsports team, who compete in various competitions, including the Carrera Cup[9]
In 2007, Supabarn was recognized for making over $1,000,000 in donations to their local community.[10]
Supabarn is currently a sponsor of the Canberra Raiders NRL Team[11]
